The dashiki, a plaid shirt worn by men in Ghana, is comparable to the Ghanaian smock. There are feminine variations of it as well. The smock is also referred as by the Mamprusis as Bun-nw or Bana, fugu or a batakari in the northern region, dansika in Frafra, and fugu or Banaa in Kusaal, both in the upper east. In the three northern regions, it is worn by the monarchs, although it is increasingly common throughout Ghana. The smock is similar to Burkina Faso's faso dan fadi, the country's traditional clothing, and it originated in Ghana's three northern regions.
The national clothing of Ghana is the smock and Kente cloth. Smocks and Kente cloth were made in different parts of Ghana: the southern region produced Kente cloth.
